Mika Vainio Tribute

On April 12, 2017 Mika Vainio passed away in Normandy (France) at just 53 years of age. The Die Angel project unites musicians with whom he worked and performed, to pay homage to this singular artist. Participants include: Ilpo Väisänen, his partner and accomplice in Pan Sonic, Germany's Schneider TM (Dirk Dresselhaus) and the Australian guitarist Oren Ambarchi. The three joined forces to record the album, "Entropien I", which will be presented by Väisänen and Dresselhaus at SonarComplex. The concert is sure to be replete with raw and experimental electronic music converging with acoustic elements, which will fittingly reflect the spirit of the much missed Finnish musician.

Vaisanen and Dresselhaus have been working together for almost 20 years under their Angel alias that has now been transformed into Die Angel. They describe Die Angel as a project allowing energy to circulate freely between machines, bodies and different acoustic conditions, leaning towards exploring the physical complexity of unstructured electronica. Concepts that also help explain the meticulous sonic spectrum of Vainio, to whom they dedicate this new work and to whom Sónar also wish to pay tribute.
