Angel Deradoorian has been fully immersed in music for the better part of her life. As a former member of art-pop iconoclasts Dirty Projectors, Angel Deradoorian has developed an almost ritualistic take on vocal performances and freeform songwriting. Besides working and performing with the likes of Vampire Weekend’s Rostam, Animal Collective, Stephen O’Malley or Flying Lotus, her solo album, The Expanding Flower Planet, was released on Anticon in 2015. In this world premiere, Deradoorian’s unique performance style collides with that of the Moscow-based songwriter Kate Shilonosova, AKA Kate NV, whose music represents a buoyant mash-up of influences ranging from ’80s J-pop, early ’90s rave and the swagger of new jack swing. Her 2016 debut LP, Binasu, took her glossy mannerisms and pristine, Kate Bush-like vocals even further, creating a perfect primer to NV’s twisted sonic universe of towering polyrhythms and sleek melodics.
