Sónar by Night - SonarClub
There are very few DJs who have the innate ability to play so many different styles, ranging from old and new house, to booty dance, or the latest in trap and bass music. And rarely does this coincide with the capacity to connect with mass audiences so effortlessly. A-Trak returns to Sónar to adeptly show off these virtues, fittingly on the SonarClub stage. Alain Macklovitch first achieved massive success in 2010 with the hit "Barbara Streisand", under his Duck Sauce alias (the duo he forms with dance music legend Armand Van Helden, who are currently in "stand by" mode).
Anyway, aside from the ease with which he created his first hit, he originally began his career as a turntablist, winning the prestigious DMC award when just 15 years old. Q-Bert then made him an honorary member of the Invisible Skratch Piklz collective and later A-Trak formed The Allies collective with another turntablist guru, Dj Craze. This abundance of quality and skill did not go unnoticed by Kanye West, which also led to him performing on the decks as part of West's shows. Over the last ten years the Canadian has also headed the successful Fool's Gold Records label with his partner Nick Catchdubs, ending last year by releasing a seven-inch boxset of A-Trak's best remixes over a decade, as well as his collaborations with DJ and bass and trap producer Baauer, with whom he toured several North American cities last autumn.
