Processing… Sónar by Day: A transformation to celebrate 30 years of the festival

17/01/2023

The celebration starts at Sónar by Day. Since 1994, Sónar’s flagship daytime event has brought together music, creativity and technology in the centre of Barcelona. This year is no different, with the global sounds of club music colliding with experimental performances, ground-breaking audiovisual shows and some of the biggest DJs in the world. A 30th anniversary party not to be missed.

Lineups by day and individual tickets for Sónar by Day available now

Today the lineups by day for Sónar by Day are unveiled: head here to see which artists are performing on each of the three days.

From renowned international DJs like The Blessed Madonna and Laurent Garnier to live performances by the likes of Charlotte Adigéry & Bolis Pupul and Oneohtrix Point Never. And from Max Cooper’s live AV show to DJ sets by Nick León and BADSISTA b2b Cashu. Plus Sónar+D opens its doors to the general public with a wide-ranging programme that takes in exclusive concerts - amongst them, CLARAGUILAR, Kode9, and Lucrecia Dalt - talks, performance-style conferences, exhibitions and masterclasses. In total, Sónar by Day features over 70 different activities spread across five different stages and various spaces, offering discovery and inspiration in equal measure.

Individual tickets are now on sale for each day, with a limited quantity now available at first release price

A new SonarVillage by Estrella Damm

The sounds of cutting-edge electronic music will highlight each of the three days, with a spectacularly transformed SonarVillage by Estrella Damm offering the perfect venue for a celebration of global club culture

The lineup for Sónar by Day’s main stage will be headlined by three artists who are icons in their own right: The Blessed Madonna (Friday), Laurent Garnier (Saturday), and another name for Thursday that will be revealed very shortly

Alongside them, names like Bradley Zero b2b Moxie, Eliza Rose, Nick León, Ahadadream, Selectya Glossy, MikeQ, and Manuka Honey represent the diversity of today’s global club scene. Click here to see when they’ll perform; the lineup for Sónar by Day will also be finalised very soon.

Those familiar with Sónar by Day will arrive on Thursday to find a redesigned SonarVillage by Estrella Damm, with a new dancefloor offering protection from the sun and a new SonarVIP by Red Bull offering fantastic views of the stage.

The 30th anniversary makeover is completed with the relocation of the food-trucks and chill-out area to air-conditioned interior spaces.

Sónar+D expands in two directions, with an evening programme open to the public during Sónar by Day and morning activities exclusively for delegate pass holders

11 years ago, Sónar+D was launched to explore how technology and science could combine with creativity and art. Today, the relationships between these disciplines are more intertwined than ever before: visual artists are using AI to explore the limits of creativity and challenge perceptions; musicians are writing records that highlight the urgency of the climate crisis; and new technologies from chat-GPT to blockchain to stable diffusion are constantly in the news.

That’s why this year Sónar+D is opening the bulk of its programme to the general public at Sónar by Day.

As well as the activities mentioned above, there’s also the introduction of Project Area, a new exhibition area dedicated to innovation in audio, video, expanded reality and other tools for creators. Very shortly, an open call for artists, companies and institutions who wish to exhibit their work here will be launched.

At 10am on Thursday and Friday Sónar+D 2023 will open its doors exclusively for delegate pass holders. Until 3pm, there’ll be a series of specific activities for professionals, students and curious members of the public. Purchase your delegate pass and gain access to the full Sónar+D programme here
