Party vibes at Sónar by Day

Another year, another melting pot of genres and styles, and ample space for sonic exploration at Sónar by Day. Add to this a heavy dose of music that inspires joy, celebration, dancing and hedonism, and you get the recipe for an unforgettable party.

One group that spread positive energy wherever they tread is Fat Freddy's Drop, the seven piece band from New Zealand that turn every performance into a party soundtracked by their unique blend of dub, soul, hip-hop, funk and 4/4 beats. Exuding similar positivity, but working in a very different space is Joe Goddard, whose recent LP Electric Lines is inspired by the connections that electronic music can inspire, and whose euphoric and emotive house is the perfect soundtrack to the summer.
One festival under a groove is also the MO of two North American outfits playing back to back at SonarVillage on Sat 17th: The global future soul collective Soulection - whose Joe Kay and Jarreau Vandal will be representing the freshest sounds around - and Canada's Keys'N'Krates; with their irresistable bass heavy instrumental trap. Both acts are certain to get the whole of SonarVillage dancing as one.

The sunny side of hip-hop and grime will also get an outing, with Princess Nokia, Stöoki Sound and Nadia Rose showing that this is music with its roots in the rave, and its heart in the community. Of course, its not a party without a DJ, and Sónar 2017 presents a number of DJ's who are certified party starters, with a wealth of international experience at whipping dancefloors into a frenzy. From cosmic disco ambassador Prins Thomas to the globetrotting sounds of Bawrut (whose own production 'Ciquita' could be the dance track of the summer) to the three acts tasked with closing sets on successive days: Craig Richards (Thurs 22:10 - 00:00), Damian Lazarus (Fri  21:00 - 23:00) and Optimo (Sat 21:15 - 23:00).

The party won't be restricted to outside however, with hi-energy sets from artists that defy categorization, but are united by their unique understanding of what makes a dancefloor go off: RP Boo, Denis Sulta, Star Eyes & Jubilee, Robert & Lyric Hood (presenting Floorplan Live for the first time) and Suicideyear, count among those acts at SonarDôme by Red Bull Music Academy; while over at our new stage SonarXS, BSN Posse, Bad Gyal, Bejo, Yung Beef and Dellafuente will represent the new Spanish explosion in trap, footwork, rap and dancehall.
