The future of Latin America

Zutzut & Imaabs will deliver New Latin American electronica rhythms to Sónar 2017. The two artists representing Mexican label NAAFI are perhaps currently South America's most popular collective gaining international attention. Zutzut is Alejandro Nuñez, from Monterrey; Imaabs is Cristo Gavras, from Santiago de Chile. Both are championing a new electronica sound that naturally blends futuristic electronic rhythms with echoes of their Latin heritage, but in an altogether unconventional way. The resulting work is something truly original that stems from the South American capital's neighbourhoods and streets, and is the antithesis of pastiche and formulaic radio. This exciting and effusively contemporary music from across the Atlantic will be transported onto the SonarVillage stage for an exhilarating live show.

N.A.A.F.I. is simultaneously many things: an itinerant party, a collective, a label and a promoter founded in Mexico City in 2010. In their own words, it works like a musical community that magnetizes artists and projects from different Mexican and global regions, and is focused on the exploration of outlying rhythms and the celebration of club culture. In addition to Imaabs and Zutzut, other group members include Lao (who performed last year at SonarDôme), the prodigious Paul Marmota, DJ Tetris, the trap and hip hop combo Fuete Billete, Fausto Bahia, Jamez Manuel, Lechuga Zafiro, Omaar, Smurphy and Siete Catorce.
