Folk, glitches y hielo

For a Bedroom Community special we must of course include its founder and central figure. In addition to his role as label chief, Valgeir Sigurdsson is an extremely thoughtful and sensitive musician. Open to all kinds of external influences he has collaborated with artists including Björk, Brian Eno, Bonnie Prince Billy, Oneohtrix Point Never, Tim Hecker, Anohni, Sigur Rós or Jóhann Jóhannsson, among others. For his most recent album he released an opera piece first heard in 2009, composed jointly with Nico Muhly, another artist on the label who will also perform at Sónar 2017. His fourth solo album "Dissonance" is also due for release this year, which will likely provide the basis for his concert at SonarComplex.

Sigurdsson founded Bedroom Community in 2006, releasing his debut LP "Ekvílibríum" the following year, which immediately saw him outline the basis of his spectral and evocative sound. Since then the Icelander's music has continued to develop and grow in a wide-ranging context, with influences from post-punk, minimalism, improvisation, glitches, drones, piano music and Nordic folk. Sigurdsson has composed pieces for artistic installations, cinema and theatre, and formed a group of musicians and label-mates (including Ben Frost, Paul Corley, Sam Amidon, Daniel Bjarnason and Muhly) that have transformed the Northern European scene and taken the Icelandic folk sound to a new level, marked by the enormous possibilities of electronica and the most advanced production processes.
