Bass immersion

“Too Many Voices” (Modern Love, 2016) marks the latest excellent chapter in Andy Stott’s career. The Mancunian producer continues to re-write his own style, implementing small changes to each new work: in this case the use of overlapping voices, bringing further expressiveness to his already magnetic material. Stott has discovered his own singular sound where house music is immersed in a dense sea of dub, and dance rhythms are soaked in mercury. His recent output has made him one of the most respected producers in the world, and his concert at SonarComplex is a Sónar by Day program essential.

Stott began his career as a producer more than a decade ago with “Merciless” (2006), operating in the IDM sphere and slow bpm techno. A significant turning point came with the release of a pair of EPs “We Stay Together” and “Passed Me By”, in which he forged his particular and recognisable dark house bass style. Following this came LP's including “Luxury Problems” and “Faith In Strangers” and his collaboration with Miles Whittaker (from Demdike Stare) for the Millie & Andrea project, yet more episodes in a high quality creative body of woek, with a resonance that moves beyond genre considerations.

Sónar will present his show in collaboration with the Today's Art festival as part of the We Are Europe project.
