Venerated by fans in their thousands and with a track record few can match, Marco Carola is a global ambassador for techno. Taking into account his considerable know how and vast professional experience, the Neapolitan DJ is the ideal candidate to play one of the most important and demanding slots at Sónar by Night: Saturday's closing at SonarClub. Known for his long and distinguished career at nights and festivals the world over, as well as countless productions on his own and many other labels, Carola has carried the banner for compelling techno for more than a decade with sets comprising of minimalist structures and subtle sonorities.

Carola was one of the first figures to emerge from the small but potent Italian techno scene. In the 90s he founded his first labels, Design Music and One Thousand Noise. He combined his label work with playing sets across the continent, putting him in contact with the world's leading DJs and producers, resulting in a swathe of impeccable and implacable techno releases. Later he launched two other labels, Zenit and Question, moved his base of operations to London and Frankfurt and transformed his production style. This saw him release on prestigious labels including Plus 8 and Minus at the start of the decade, on which his last LP "Play It Loud!" appeared.
