Sónar by Night - SonarPub by Thunder Bitch

Wise hands

This year the phenomenal Derrick Carter will make his long awaited Sónar debut with a set on Friday night at SonarPub. The Chicago DJ and producer is a touchstone for underground house music, an authentic ambassador of the city’s scene with a career spanning more than 30 years. Carter knows everything about house, dance music and the art of mixing: his sessions are exacting in technique and superlative in selection, combining both the physical and sublimely subtle as if it were child's play. Try not to dance at one of his sets: impossible.

Perhaps not quite as eminent as other classic Chicago house music figures, Carter is an integral name in the American city, especially so in the 1990s, continuing in the same vein as pioneers such as Larry Heard and Farley Jackmaster Funk. He is similarly idolized in Europe, many knowing him for his association with Dixon, Henrik Schwarz and Amê on the hit “Where We At”, in 2006, as well as for his work on the Classic label with Luke Solomon, which saw releases from Roy Davis Jr., Isolée, Tiefschwarz, Brett Johnson and DJ Sneak among many others. It is a genuine honour to have him play at this year’s Sónar.
