Each year, Sónar is a snapshot of the current scene, whether that includes old hands who are developing new stories in their work, or those emerging musicians who are pushing the conversation forward by kicking against the grain. This is perhaps best exemplified in the dance music line up for Sónar 2019. Over the three days and two nights of the festival in Barcelona, every strand of contemporary dance music imaginable is represented, from the lo-fi house of DJ Seinfeld and Ross From Friends, through to Disclosure's house music with an edge, via the trance inflected techno of Paul Kalkbrenner and Amelie Lens's taking care of business approach to big room sounds.

This year, we've also placed a special focus on those DJ's who have turned curation into an artform. Floating Point's 6hour set at SonarCar for example promises to be a psychedelic journey through 40 years of jazz, funk, soul and electronica, spanning the four corners of the globe, while DJ Koze's careful study of house, disco, funk and bass music makes him the undisputed master of the live edit. Elsewhere, Four Tet, whose recent pivot into club-ready dance music has created a whole new genre of "emotional techno", will play his only Spanish festival set of the summer in a specially blacked out room to let the music do the talking.

The spirit of collaboration is also alive and well this year, with a number of exclusive b2b sets, sure to get the attention of old school heads and new school clubbers alike: Masters at Work legend Louie Vega & Honey Dijon, Peggy Gou & Palms Trax, Blawan & Dax J, and because three isn't always a crowd; the trio of Danny Krivit, Joe Clausell and Francois Kevorkian - Body & Soul with a 6hour set at SonarCar.
