Pascal Comelade + Richard Pinhas

(G3G Records / FR)

Thursday 13th 20:30h - 21:15h
Sónar by Day - SonarComplex - LIVE
Tour de Force
Sónar presents a project that brings together two of the most exciting musicians outside of the conventional European scene: Pascal Comelade and Richard Pinhas. Their concert, which can only be seen at Sónar by Day, presents the lesser known Comelade’s electronica side, and consists of two long musical pieces: a compendium of sounds from his album "Flip Side of sophism" (which began taking shape in the early 1990’s). The album will be performed and played by two musicians, Pinhas--guitar and synthesizers, and Comelade--piano and organ. The second piece will also feature the rhythm section of the Bel Canto Orchestra, founded by Comelade in Barcelona in 1983.

Comelade lives in Ceret (North Catalunya). He has spent more than thirty years composing and creating a luscious, adventurous musical path in his own inimitable style which consumes and coverts popular music into a dreamlike avant-garde language. He is best known for bringing toy instruments, seemingly impossible sounds, and an infinite number of minimalist and short instrumentals which form the corpus of his work, along with a host of collaborations and adaptations of old musical genres.

His accomplice in this special project is Richard Pinhas, experimentalist and respected French guitarist, founder of the band Heldon in the 70’s, and considered one of the pioneers of cosmic electronic music along with Robert Fripp and Brian Eno. Pinhas has collaborated with artists such as Merzbow, Wolf Eyes and Maurice G. Dantec demonstrating the rich musical contrasts in his extensive and influential career.
An honour indeed.
