14th, 15th and 16th June
From 10am to 8pm

“Ghost Forest” is a compositional transposition of a multitude of original recordings – made in diverse forests all over the world by sound artist Francisco López– into the space of the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion in Barcelona. With the aim of creating an immersive environment, the original captured “reality” has been evolved through extreme filtering. This process has been carried out to reveal a ghostly spectrum of frequencies of the transposed forest environments. The different “spectral” sonic layers are automatically mixed live in the space (in ever changing combinations) through a special sound system specially designed for this installation. These sounds have been thoroughly worked in the studio as an automatic composition, both for this specific sound system and for the actual space of the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion.
The different “spectral” sonic layers are automatically mixed live in the space (in ever-changing combinations) through an array of small speakers spread out in the space of the Pavilion. These sounds have been thoroughly worked in the studio as an automatic composition, both for the specific speaker system used and for the actual space of the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion.

Ticket price: 4,75€. Just available at the Mies van der Rohe Pavillion box office. With the Sónar Pass and the Sónar by Day ticket access is granted.

Rita McBride
Public Tender
MACBA
From 19th March to 24th September
From 10am to 8pm
Plaça dels Àngels, 1

Rita McBride is an artist working with the language of sculpture. Her work over the last 25 years has yielded a plethora of projects and objects that are as surprising as they are provocative. "Oferta pública / Public Tender" will present highlights of her sculptures that have been chosen for their specific ability to elicit questions that address public production and perception of culture. While some of the works directly re-introduce found forms from our built world with unexpected materials and dimensions, others are more directly derivative of design and architecture. The show includes a showcase of Game Of Life, the only mobile wave field synthesis system in the world. The system, featuring 192 specially designed loudspeakers, provides listeners with an immersive sonic experience that is impossible to experience in one's own home environment.

Free entrance during the 3 days of the festival with the Sónar by Day ticket or the Sónar Pass

Matthew Hawtin
Dimensions
Galeria Mutt
From 13th June to 31st. July
Open from monday to saturday, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

An exhibition by the plastic artist Matthew Hawtin, highlighting the intersection between his reductive aesthetic and the sound of the labels M_nus and Plus 8, with which he has had strong links from their earliest days. Matthew's work is a display of geometric forms, exercises in symmetry, pure edges, repetitive layers, ensembles of depth and flat coloured surfaces. It is a world of abstraction that can be interpreted as a highly personal translation of the rhythms and textures of the techno and electronic music that he and his brother Richie discovered in Detroit in the early nineties. From the covers for F.U.S.E. to his latest pieces, Hawtin's work, an amalgam of art, architecture and design, provides an alternative testimony to the aesthetic development of techno over the past two decades.
