The French duo make electronica that sounds like it comes from outer space… or from a garden shed.

French synth-pop act UTO have made it their mission to sound like no-one else. On their latest album When all you want to do is be the fire part of fire (a title taken from a lyric by unconventional singer-songwriter Bill Callahan), the girlfriend-boyfriend mix 90s rave sounds with rural psychedelia, adding their eccentric, often introspective lyrics (themes range from Dante’s Inferno to plumbing) over the top. Broadcast, but make it breakbeat? Stereolab, if they were dipped in neon paint? A bit of both, but not exactly either. One of the acts we’re most curious to experience live at Sónar by Day.
